With the advent of AI and its ability to closely mimic human output, the need to have a way to certify what is really a human output has become a real requirement.

Let’s look at what kind of digital outputs are there:

  1. Text
  2. Speech and audio
  3. A combination of the above

Now let’s look at how these outputs are getting generated:

  1. Completely human
  2. Completely AI
  3. On a spectrum i.e. AI generated with human inputs (This one is difficult as exact quantification between human and AI in terms of output is hard). For our purpose it is also to be considered AI generated.

Completely AI also needs some initiation point but the input is only, in a way, just starter and not a active participant in the process.

Our aim would be to certify that a work is completely human. This is going to be a very hard task and I have an inkling that we will move offline for truly human interactions in the coming decade. We would have real certifying authorities that would certify if a text or a piece of work is completely human.

List of the things that are mass consumed and can now or in near future be done with equal or better quality than humans:

  • Books
  • Songs
  • Movies & Ads
  • Painting & Animation
  • Software
  • Advisory
  • Architecture
  • Design
  • Diagnosis and Prescription
  • Machine Automation

I wonder how I would feel if I see a novel in store that says, its author is mostly AI. I may pick it, out of curiosity, but will I pay 700/- for it? The philosophy & economics of our expenses on creative things would come into question. Even though there are naysayers but I believe AI novels will be equally enthralling. I may still make connection with the character but I will not make connection with the author. Will there be a disconnect between the consumer and a producer then. What if hypothetically, it comes out the Hanuman Ansh song “Jab jidd pe aa gayi Parvati” was composed, sung and played by AI, will I stop enjoying it? I won’t but what if its AI creatorship was told beforehand? Then would I feel differently? I probably won’t but I was not paying for the song anyways. In case of a book though, I will feel bad and question paying a higher price for the AI authored book. While I am paying for my entertainment, I also look at my payment as an appreciation for the author’s novel thoughts.

May be there would be a premium for human output. The question is whether I will pay 1000/- for a 3.5/5 human written novel vs 500Rs for a 4.8/5 AI generated novel.

It is my hunch that whatever the economics be, people would want to differentiate the human from AI. The service providing this authentication, would be a great business. For shorter activity human vigilance might be enough but long endeavours like writing a book, we would require something else. More thoughts on it in coming days.

This post is completely human written. You have to take my word for it..for now..
